Space-borne, laboratory-based and ground-based spectroscopy of regolith characterization and lithological discrimination

cr

My research aims at evaluating the use of spectroscopic analysis for regolith characterization over aluminous laterite and bauxite using laboratory- based, ground-based and space-borne imaging spectroscopy. Laboratory spectroscopy comprises Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Field or ground spectroscopy implies usage of reflectance spectra obtained from Analytical Spectral Devices (ASD) spectroradiometer. Multi- spectral and hyperspectral satellite imageries are used for space-borne spectroscopy. Lithological discrimination and generation of regolith map differentiating Al and Fe rich laterites over tranported and residual regolith is the ulitmate goal.
