Study Area

  • Mining districts of Goa cover 65,400 Ha out of the total 3,65,000 Ha.
  • Only 18,000 Ha under actual mining operations
  • 70 mines covering an area of roughly 6000 Ha are active and they found more than 80% of the total iron ore production from Goa
  • Mining has been active for more than 40 years
  • 300 million tons of ore produced and more than 600 million tons of waste generated

Most of the mine works below ground water level and about 10 cubic meters of water to be pumped out for every tone of ore mined.
